ABOUT THE ART
After kicking my 2 month long creative block to the curb, I gently began venturing back into the studio. I started by taking an inventory of stones, & found myself immediately drawn to my treasury of Royston Ribbon Turquoise.
Many of these stones have been with me since the very beginning, when I began this metalsmithing endeavor back in 2016. This material is quite unique as it is cut in the opposite direction of typical turquoise- each vein is sliced horizontally, as opposed to vertically, thus creating those beautiful “ribbons” of saturated color. Royston Ribbon has always reminded me of rivers and seaside cliffs, swimming holes, lakeshores and tiny islands, meandering streams, oxbows and wetlands.
My early work was exclusively turquoise, but as my style shifted over the years & I explored new techniques, I let turquoise fall to the wayside…until now.
As I diligently worked towards breaking out of my artistic slump this summer, I spent ample time swimming in lakes, streams & rivers. Dips in cold wild waters have always been peak joy for me- a natural way to calm anxiety & stoke alllll the good ideas. So, it really comes as no surprise that I was drawn to stones that reminded me of the solace that saved me this summer.

ABOUT THE STONE
KINGMAN: Located in Kingman, Arizona, the area has quite the history, containing some of the most far-reaching prehistoric workings found in Arizona. The ancient mines were first mined by the Native Americans and then rediscovered in the 1880s. The modern mine is surrounded by the Cerbat Mountains and is known for producing light blue to dark blue gemmy turquoise veins, with the occasional tint of green. Stones exhibit a very fine matrix with colors ranging from white to light brown to black. It is considered by many to be the best turquoise in the world, and is very hard to find in its high-grade form- thus making it a highly sought after stone.
A NOTE ON WEAR
I have chosen high quality materials to create a piece of artful jewelry that will last a lifetime. Although crafted with the adventurous spirit in mind, please take care while wearing my pieces as natural stones can be delicate. To prolong the life of your piece, I suggest you remove it while swimming, hiking, rock climbing, cliff jumping, skydiving or whatever other crazy and rigorous adventure you find yourself on!
